Significance for science
We feel that – by its research output – our group has been able to retain its relatively high position among the European as well as World teams in clinical neurophysiology. Some of our research projects have provided valuable new approach to and/or new knowledge of the topics studied. Co-operation with foreign research groups resulted in several well cited publications and strengthened our international orientation. By organizing annual symposia we have provided yet another opportunity for the transfer of new knowledge into our country and of our knowledge to scrutiny by foreign capacities. Members of our research groups have often been invited speakers in international faculties, three of them are also members of the editorial boards of prominent international journals, while several members are their regular peer-reviewers. Our research group is well trained, experienced, and also relatively well equipped. As such it would be and is willing to accept new young researchers, so as to ensure future development in the field. Unfortunately, the socioeconomic situation of young researchers is far from encouraging young doctors to decide for the scientific career.
Significance for the country
Our research team is the main group in the field of clinical neuroscience in Slovenia, striving not only for its scientific progress, but also for education and application in the field. Its members are active as teachers and tutors in several clinical disciplines related with neurology and neuroscience - neurology, neurophysiology, neuropsychology, neurosurgery. The students are not only medical doctors but also of other medical (physiotherapists, nurses) as well as non-medical profiles (psychologists). We feel that by our publications, invited lectures, international collaboration we also help promote our country globally.
