Abstract
The basic task of biographical and bibliographical research is the study of the important personalities of the Slovenian past and present. The research program is a logical continuation of the research, which took place in years 1999-2003 and/or still continues at the present time. Biographical and bibliographical research is conceived as multidisciplinary or interdiscilinary in it's origin. This kind of approach can be recognised on one side by the different basic scientific fields of the scientists included in this bio-bibliographical research and on the other side by the researched personalities, who for some time belong no more only to humanistic's (or literary history's) field, which were the prime and starting field of this kind of research in the past ( as in the case of the early volumes of the Slovenian Bibliographical Lexicon) but include all other scientific fields - social sciencies, natural sciencies, technological and all other branches of science, as well as all other aspects of social activities: economics, politics, culture, spiritual life, religion, school, sports, mass media, free time and so on. This approach offers a broad spectrum of possible research topics and their interdisciplinary interconnections. The basic emphasis of the research is on the study of the Slovenian personalities from the past and the present, who lived or still live in Slovenian mailand or abroad as memers of Slovenian minorities or Slovenian emigrants. Included are also the personalities of non-Slovenian origines who with their lives and works became the integral part of Slovenian past and present. Special attention will be given to the personalities from Slovenian mainland or abroad, of Slovenian or non-Slovenian origins, who till now for different reasons, ideological or other, were not or were not properly and justly evaluated.
Significance for science
The presented biographical and bibliographical researches have their basic meaning for the development of the Slovenian science regarding their Slovenian adjustment. They have also their meaning especially by disseminating the knowledge of the Slovenian personalities which acted creatively or are still acting in the European and broader World space for the development of humanistic as well as sociological and natural ant other sciences in these frames, which surpass the basic Slovenian frame of these researches. This meaning is much more distinctive and wished-for in the present time of ever more frequent and deepened international, and interstate European and World connections. They are certainly the important aspect ob the extended recognition of the Slovenian personalities and their work in the broader European and World space.
Significance for the country
In the time of swift integration of Europe and the world, the endeavours of the Biographic and Bibliographic research with Documentation presents a useful contribution to better recognition of prominent Slovenian personalities in the wider European and global environment, and simultaneously to greater recognition of Slovenia. Additionally, the projects contributes to a more energetic, creative and equal inclusion of its citizens into this environment. Significant segment of Slovenian personalities, those active at home and abroad, come from natural sciences and technology background. Bio-bibliographical knowledge about them in Slovenia and abroad surely positively influences technological development in the Republic of Slovenia. Biographical and bibliographical research of prominent personalities in Slovenian past and present, and the publication of research results significantly contribute to consolidation of Slovenian self-esteem and ethnic identity. Moreover, it contributes to greater recognition of Slovenian ethnic territory, to nourishing consciousness about Slovenian cultural heritage, which is extremely important in the time of European and global integration.
