Abstract
A three year project of fundamental research in mathematics is proposed, its main aim being the investigation of the following important unsolved problems of geometric and algebraic topology. Non-standard embeddings of Cantor sets in Euclidean spaces, knot and link theory, geometric properties of continua, Seiberg-Witten invariants, PL topology of manifolds of low dimension, cohomological dimension theory, homotopy autoequivalences, Lie groups etc. Publication of our results in leading mathematical journals is planned. In addition a book about cell-like maps and homology manifolds is expected to be published by a renowned international publisher. The proposed project is related to our bilateral projects, ie the Slovenian-Japanese, Slovenian-US, Slovenian-Polish, Slovenian-Italian, and both Slovenian-Russian projects which are currently run by our research group. Also this project will enable the education of young researchers.
