Abstract
The firm Rotomatika d.o.o. has at its disposal in the scope of its activities, also a casting house for casting of aluminium alloys to meet its own requirements as well requirements of the market. Because of strong international competition, they wish to introduce, particularly in the field of automotive industry, computer-aided simulation in order to improve the supervision and prediction of the die-casting process for a given product.
The purpose of the proposed project, i.e., of the development of tools and products for die casting, is to improve the entire process of product manufacture in the casting house, which will be achieved mainly by investing into exceptionally expensive and exacting computer aided simulation of the die-casting process. It should be pointed out that due to high casting temperatures and exceptionally short times of the alloy supply to the metal tool, the die-casting process for metal alloys is much more exacting than the related processes of plastics moulding for which comparatively reliable computer-aided simulations have existed for quite some time now.
Among the software offered by few bidders, Rotomatika wishes to select high-quality software for the process simulation and realize all the advantages possible; therefore, it is going to co-operate with the research group of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. The project group of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering will participate in the introduction of individual research phases in the process simulation, the design and technological solutions for tool construction and in the product shaping, the selection of tool material and aluminium alloys and, if required, in their changes. An important project component is synergy of the program package for the simulation of the die-casting process using the existing possibilities and production capacities of Rotomatika.
