Abstract
The main purpose of the proposed project is, in connection with other European archives (Phonogrammarchiv Vienna, Musicological Archive of the Institute for Literature St. Petersburg, Archive ot the Musicological Institute of Hungarian Academy of Sciences etc.), to gather, preserve and scientifically research following collections of material: slovene material from the collection of hungarian researcher Vikar Bela (1898), from the collection of russian researcher E. Lineva (1913), the sound recordings of Slovene folk songs sung by soldiers from World War I (Vienna 1914-1918), research of first field recordings on wax cylinders (J. Adlešič - 1914), scientific analysis, preservation and documentation of early sound recordings on records/record plates/plates, from research made by Marolt (1936-1945). This material is as fundamental for the identity of the Slovene nation in Slovene cultural environment as for European cultural heritage. Therefore it is necessary, in a first phase of the project, to gather, restore, preserve and document the material, so it can serve as a basis for scientific synthesis of ethnical and cultural identity of the Slovene nation. This wil also give us the ground for all of further textological, ethnocoreological, ethnomusicological and general folkloristic research. On the basis of restored, archived and computer manipulated material, there will be possible to derive universal elements and specifics that Slovene nation had created in its own cultural-historical and linguistic environment and in connection with other cultures and nations. The aim of our scientific research (of this material) is to evaluate and present an autonomous structure of the Slovene nation inside the multi-cultural environments (for instance Austro-Hungarian Empire) in past and later periods of history until today. Precise scientific analysis of material, together with comparison of all the above mentioned collections, will be preformed by interdisciplinary means of research. That will also involve wider analysis of material, especially that recorded by foreign collectors, with consideration of historical, sociological, antropological, ethnological, linguistic etc. view. There will be new restoration and techno-acustical methods used in archiving of the material, that enable the optimal technical, archival and later scientific work, modern methods of systematics, cataloguing, documenting and electroacustical methods of restoration of the historical recordings, which are, because of old way of sound recording and format, the most difficult to restore. The aim of our research is to gather and preserve the above mentioned material, catalogue it with all relevant documentation and enable quick access to our researchers. This way the material could be used in different levels and/of complexity of the research. The results wil be published in print and sound publications.
