Abstract
The Philosophy of History is nowadays by need facing different interpretations of the process of European integration, which is radically changing, with important novelties, not only the economic and geopolitical idea of the continent, but also the cardinal concept of identity, as it has to deal with a different understanding of our social and cultural environment. A sensible research of the common foundations of an united Europe cannot avoid an interpretation of its historical languages and a proper methodological definition of their various effects on the formation of the fundamental vectors, that are shaping the current image of Europe and may concern some possible scenarios in future. The language of philosophy for example has developed, long before a geopolitical concept of Europe has been established, a complex syntax describing human relations towards the world, other human beings, communities and different cultures. Some manifestations of this language are now evident in the programmatic lines of the project of a constitution for Europe. The question, how can these manifestations contribute to the stability of the European Union as a whole and how they can stress the importance and the role of national communities in this framework, still remains open as well as relevant especially both for smaller countries and projects about future enlargements of the Union.
