Abstract
New solid state complexes of quinolone antibacterial agents will be prepared. Quinolones already used in clinical praxis as well as some less known quinolones will be used as starting materials. The reactions with various metal ions will be performed especially those that have not been used in our previous studies. Among these the most interesting ions are vanadium, titanium, magnesium and cobalt. If necessary some other metal ions will also be used. The reactions will be carried out in different solvents. It was namely discovered that some products could not be isolated from aqueous medium. The reactions of different copper salts with quinolones will also be continued and the products will be compared with previously isolated copper-quinolone complexes. All isolated compounds will be characterized by selected physico-chemical methods (elemental analyzes, thermal analysis, spectroscopic methods, X-ray analysis, etc.). The biological tests of the compounds will be performed in the cooperation with appropriate laboratories. We also intend to study the bonding of quinolones and their metal complexes to DNA or smaller parts of this molecule.
