Abstract
Because of high magneto crystalline anisotropy due to the ordered L10 phase in equi-atomic Co-Pt thin films and due to the hcp phase in Co-rich Co-Pt films, these films represent a promising candidate in the field of high-density magnetic recording media, as well as in the field of magnetic micro-actuators and systems (MAGMAS), which require the development of permanent magnetic films with excellent magnetic properties. Co-Pt thin films of different thicknesses will be prepared using the electro-deposition method from a single electrolyte, which represents a low-cost alternative method to the already used vapour deposition techniques. The focus of this project will be the deposition of Co-Pt thin films with different compositions, and the improvement of the magnetic properties by additions of nonmagnetic elements in order to increase the coercivity and by applying an external magnetic field during the deposition process in order to produce textured films with increased remanence. The switching mechanism will be investigated using the (M method.
