Abstract
Risk and vulnerability maps are essential for water protection and for environmental management. The maps of the whole aquifer catchment area as well as of parts of it and of particular pollutants are needed. Different degrees of vulnerability can help to define karst spring protection zones and land use. In our test polygon in catchment area of Malni springs specific problems will be charted and the EU methodology will be tested. Factors regarding vulnerability will be evaluated, they will be graded according to their importance and cartographic methods to determine intrinsic and specific vulnerability will be useD. Risk assessment will be taken into account too. We will support the use of GIS.
