Abstract
The project consists of preparation and study of new families of P-chiral phosphine ligands and their catalysts. These catalysts will be tested in industrially attractive transformations such as asymmetric hydrogenation towards the synthesis of pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and cosmetic intermediates.
Significance for science
In our ongoing research in organic synthesis we are developing new efficient catalysts for better, simpler and economically more interesting industrial production of chiral molecules minimizing by-products and waste materials. To improve properties of the catalysts, the reaction mechanisms of catalysis is studied as well and the design of the catalyst is modified.
Significance for the country
We are the only group in Slovenia working in research and development of new methodologies in the field of asymmetric catalysis for the synthesis of chiral organic compounds. The interest of pharmaceutical industry in such methodologies is increasing and we are actively collaborating with the local pharmaceutical companies and developing collaborations with European academic groups. Also, as asymmetric catalysis is only briefly presented to university chemistry students, we are introducing to the young chemists this field theoretically and practically.
