Abstract
E-government is conceived as a shift from traditional bureaucratic government to a modernized, cost effective institution that facilitates timely and efficient interaction with citizens, businesses, and other government agencies by the use of information and communication technologies. A fundamental requirement in e-government is the ability for government applications (which offer various e-services) to be able to exchange data in a seamless fashion. We believe data integration plays a role of a critical success factor for achieving a mature level of e-government. Our study is focused on measuring the level of data integration on various e-services for residents or citizens, business subjects, and other associations in key areas of Slovenian public administration. The aims of the study are to investigate various levels of data integration; and to evaluate their impact on usage of e-services, particularly for web-based services. As a result, a generic model of data integration for e-government (agencies) in Slovenia will be developed.
Significance for science
The project has contibuted to the science development on the areas of data integration, conceptual modeling and data quality. The results of the project have been published as (1-2) two conference papers, (3-4) two times invited lecture/paper at the scientific conference (one of them published by prestige Lecture Notes) and (5) scientific paper / chapter in monography, published by prestige IOS Press, (6-7) two professional papers.
Significance for the country
As as a proof of applicability of the result of the project here's example: on the basis of teoretical knowledge, gained by the project and its application, a database of accredited study programs (Bologna) in higher education institutions in Slovenia has been established and given to the public. At time being, it is available at http://www.svs.gov.si/nc/en/accredited_study_programms/ It is prepared in Slovene and English!
