Significance for science
Proposed research contributed to : - Improved knowledge of the inter-phase exchange processes in horizontal stratified flow. - New physical models for computer codes Neptune_CFD and CFX useful in simulations of the condensation in stratified and slug flows. - New closure relations for inter-phase exchange of mass, momentum, and energy in 1D two-fluid models. - Development of more accurate criteria for transition from the horizontal stratified into the slug flow, which can be useful in two-fluid models.
Significance for the country
The proposed research was directly connected to the efforts for the improvement of the computer model of Nuclear Power Plant Krško, which was accepted as a tool for conservative and best-estimate safety analyses of the transients in the cooling cycle of the plant, during the design-basis accidents. Project presented Slovenian contribution to the project of the 7th research program of EU NURISP started 1.1.2009. That enabled cooperation between JSI and 22 other European institutions that prepared the proposal of the NURISP project. The proposed project and NURISP project enabled exchange of researchers and education of the Slovenian students in EU and reverse.
