Abstract
The research project program encompasses a number of areas of terminological management: study and development of terminological and terminographic theory, the production of new and refinement of currently used computer tools for processing terminology, the creation of terminological corpuses, the processing, translation, and standardization of terminology in various fields, the production and publication of monolingual and multilingual products in print and electronic form (CDs, on the web), and organization of international professional meetings.
Significance for science
An indirect impact of the proposed project is the production of permanent specialized open database corpuses that enable simultaneous updating. The most important result of our research and the practical processing of terminology is the development of Slovenian as an essential nation-forming element, facilitation of professional communication in Slovenian, and so on.
The project is in line with the second priority group: research on information society technology, including the development of human resources and social cohesion, and preservation of natural and cultural heritage, which must be connected with information technologies.
The basic applied goal of the proposed project is to produce specialized database corpuses for all disciplines, standardize the terminology of various disciplines, build databases for individual terminological areas, compile specialized dictionaries, produce a manual for developing and translating technical terms, improve the computer program used for processing lexicographic material, and so on. One of the important goals is to facilitate the accessibility of the research findings on the Internet and direct communication between researchers and users.
