Abstract
The project Veterinary Terminological Dictionary has only one goal: to prepare and issue a dictionary with veterinary professional terms in the Slovenian language. Besides the Slovenian veterinary terms - in the first place included in the dictionary - it will also comprise other terms from Latin, Greek, English and other languages. As the work on the dictionary requests considerable time it was decided that the dictionary would be issued in successive volumes. It is expected 6 - 7 volumes to be published, each volume containing 2000 to 2300 terms with a single explanation. Up to the present four volumes (A-B, 1982; C-G, 1987; L-O, 1996) and the second edition of the first volume have been issued. For each volumes it takes about 4 to 5 years of work, carried out by the Terminological Committee at the Veterinary Faculty in Ljubljana. The members of the Committee are the professors of the Veterinary Faculty, each of them being the expert for the particular veterinary domain. The technical realisation (computer) has been accomplished by the staff of the Veterinary Faculty Library. The fourth and the first volume (1998) has been completely computerized. An expert from the Institute of the Slovenian Language at the SASA Research Centre takes care of the grammatical and lexicographical reduction of the text. The work on the project is running currently and continuously, and according to our opinion successfully as well. For such a successful work the Committee is provided by all the necessary conditions: the room at the Veterinary Faculty and the acces to the expert literature, first of all to different dictionary in the Library of the Veterinary Faculty.
