Significance for science
Our research team consists of a group of clinical neurologists and psychologists, who, in their daily work, each cover a rather broad spectrum of different areas. This reflects in diversity of the research topics. However, in the last few years, a few topics emerged in which the group accomplished some internationally recognized achievements. These topics include combining of electrophysiological and MRI functional imaging studies of the brain, electrodiagnostic evaluation of the sacral nervous system, and neurology of respiration. Some of our activities seem to attain international success evidenced by well-cited publications, new original methods, numerous invited lectures and organization of the local and international meetings.
Significance for the country
In Slovenia, our research team is the only one in the field of clinical neurophysiology and our research is not only basically, but is also clinically oriented. Its results have been implemented in the clinical work to the benefit of our patients (predominantly Slovenian citizens) with various health problems, e.g. in the urinary, bowel, and sexual systems, with motor neuron disorders and breathing difficulties, hearing problems (candidates for cochlear implants), patients with intractable epilepsy, intensive care patients with weakness, etc. Beside in the routine clinical and in the research work, members of our research team are involved also in education - they are lecturing at the University of Ljubljana Medical Faculty, High School of Health in Jesenice and elsewhere. For the past 26 years they have been organizing annual international symposia, thus bringing foreign knowledge into Slovenia and presenting our own to the international audience, which is also done by active pariticipation in international meetings abroad, by publishing our work in professional journals, and by invited lecturing at different foreign institutions and events. The activity of our research team definitely contributes to the development of Slovenia into a progressive society of knowledge.
