Significance for science
The results of the project contribute to the acquisition of new knowledge in the world and here in Slovenia. We publish the results of our research in international journals with the SCI factor that is regularly quoted by foreign researchers and we obtained knowledge which is then used in projects for industrial clients. This is our nuclear power plant in Krško, which operates safely. Our knowledge contributes to ensuring its safety. The results of the project contribute to the field of nuclear energy. We contribute to raising the safety culture and to the risk informed decision making. Risk informed decision making is a modern concept, where in probabilistic safety assessment is used in addition to the deterministic safety analyses. The results of the project contribute to assessing the reliability of the Slovenian power system and demonstrate the needs in the direction of its expansion. The results contribute to the basis for determining the strategic plan about the power system in Slovenia in the coming years. Research supports as a starting point for optimization of operation of the Slovenian power system and contributes to its optimization regarding the reliability of electricity supply and costs. The results of the project encouraged young people thinking about the importance of nuclear science in the electricity use, which directly means a contribution to a cleaner environment and to significantly less pollution.
Significance for the country
The results of the project contribute to the preservation and enhancement of knowledge in the field of nuclear energy, which means maintaining and increasing the level of knowledge to support safe operation of a nuclear power plant Krško. The results help to better decide on the types of modern nuclear power plants on their safety considering their inclusion in the power system. The results contribute to the safe and reliable use of electric power system and to ensure the reliability of electricity supply to consumers. Results help to reduce costs for maintenance and testing of power systems. They contribute to the establishment of the modern concept of the risk informed decision making and to further the preparation of legislation in this area. The results contribute to a cleaner environment. They raise the competitiveness Slovenian economy. They contribute to the development and improvement of technological processes and technologies. Project results are also used in improved learning processes at the University of Ljubljana at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Project results are the starting point for cooperation with industrial partners and with foreign research organizations. The results of the project contribute to the fact that the energy and nuclear energy get additional personnel, because the number of competent personnel is decreasing. They also contribute to the education of staff and to improve graduate and postgraduate electrical engineering and nuclear engineering. The results contribute to the development of energy infrastructure and a cleaner environment and better safety culture. They increase the quality of life and help to the recognition of Slovenia in Europe and in the world. The international cooperation is encouraged as well as project activities related to a formal and informal international cooperation.
