Significance for science
Methods of thrombin generation measurement, which were utilized in this project are relatively new, therefore not much data exists for different groups of patients. The results are important from the view of basic research, since we showed that increased thrombin generation is not detected in patients with restenosis/reocclusion after PTA indicating that adverse outcome after PTA was the consequence of hypercoagulability. In the second part of the project it was established that these new methods are not superior to prothrombin time for determination of hemostatic correction after OAT interruption , although they are global assays and reflect the effect of coagulation factors as well as their inhibitors. The results of the project are important also for clinical practice, since they showed that thrombin generation can not be used to determine the risk of reocclusion/restenosis after PTA or the risk of bleeding after OAT interruption and invasive procedures.
Significance for the country
Results are important for basic science. Besides the results are important also for clinical practice in Slovenia, since they showed that methods for thrombin generation are not predictive for reocclusion/restenosis) after PTA and can not be used to determine the risk of bleeding after OAT interruption and invasive procedures.
