Significance for science
Systems medicine is gaining progressively increasing recognition in the field of medical research. With the results of our research, we have contributed to development of the filed of systems medicine, by developing a novel method for integration of various "omic" data sources. Additionally, we have confirmed the utility of presented novel approach in the translational part of this research, by performing confirmatory association studies on models of Parkinsons disease and mulitple sclerosis.
Significance for the country
Development in Slovenia is based on developing and marketing of knowledge. Field of biomedicine is also developing into an important marketing field. Developming of novel biomarkers for diagnostics, disease prognosis and novel treatments evaluation for diseases, contributing heavily to population disease burden is an especially perspective field. With performed research, we have opened new possibilities for detection of biomarkers, based on integration of various global genomic approaches towards analyzing the human genome.
