Significance for science
Well-being of employees (WBE) is based on HRM and organizational social responsibility (SR). It enriches ability of organizations in transitional societies to rapidly become more innovative and successful enterprises by creativity, resulting from WBE and enriching WBE. The multiplier effect between organizations can make e.g. Slovenia an innovative society with employees, seen as holistic humans and valuable success factor.
Creativity and innovation based on WBE supports broader definition of innovation to include any novelty, as a new source of new benefit in practice. WBE based on creativity instead of laziness requires innovation of habits and hence of management style to become a factor of innovative business and innovative society as a way out of crisis.
Research enables measuring of WBE, innovation and SR as conditions to be ensured to enable owners, managers and employees to innovate; measurable outcomes encourage. This enables the way out of the blind alley in which economy is now because the neo-liberal economics model has its outdated assumption that the free market makes all equally: the limited competition creates monopoles and feudal capitalism. This prevents the improvement of WBE and reduces staff creativity, SR and performance.
After nearly three years of research we can claim that SR, perceived in accordance with ISO 26000, requires consideration of interdependence and holism in all of seven key topics. This is considered as one of the pillars of the WBE, which is the way to the rise of the creative class. We showed that positive WBE positively impacts the organizational performance, but WBE is difficult to achieve without the dominance of ethics of interdependence rather than dependence and/or independence, if at all.
The result of the project should support a significant improvement in organizations in all and not only transitional societies, to rapidly become not only innovative, but also socially responsible organizations, which build their success on creativity as a basis for WBE. This characteristic would then, bythe multiplier effect of impact of organization expand to others. Thus, e.g. in Slovenia an innovative society will rapidly emerge in order to exit the crisis with much less severe consequences that otherwise. Measurement and resulting status and trends are a basis for meaningful intervention. This is now rarely related with the business and broader economic success, with creativity of wider circles of peers, and even less with their well-being. These are essential preconditions for coworkers' natural and learned creativity to be used in favour of “their” organization and their wider community rather than for aggravating operating of organizations to the benefit of coworkers' in their spare time.
The project is also characterized by an important methodological scientific contribution: a new instrument to measure SR, innovation and performance of organizations and WBE and the requisitely holistic personality of employees is generated .
Significance for the country
Slovenian situation is comparable to the international one; results relevant to science matter also for Slovenia. We search for the path from the crisis; we do not rely on unfeasible, but often expected chances to solvet he crisis by means and mentality having caused the crisis. Neither the government nor the employers nor the unions, publish anything, indicating that they are looking for a way out of crisis in the well-being of employees, based on creativity (WBE) as we do.
WBE contributes to a greater use of staff skills and a way out of the blind alley of the current Western society in affluence and destroyed natural environment. Economic growth is not self-sufficient, but is a mean for WBE. It is only part of the funds needed for socio-economic development. A big potential capacity remains personally and socially useless as unexploited resource.
Expected results of the project (particularly the recognition that WBE positively impact the organizational performance) should significantly increase the ability of organizations in transition countries, such as Slovenia, to rapidly become more innovative and socially responsible and build its success on the basis of creativity as well as improved WBE. This could then positively impact other organizations enabling them to expand and create an innovative society and exit the current crisis with much less negative consequences than otherwise. Measurement and measured status and trends are a basis for meaningful intervention.
Thus, a key finding and recommendation for the management is to measure the level of WBE in order to contribute to the rise of WBE level with the implementation of various measures of human resource management based on social responsibility. WBE is one of the main and most neglected terms of innovation and requires innovation of habits and therefore also of management style to become a factor of innovative business and innovative society as a way out of current crisis instead of the model of neo-liberal economics that reduces staff creativity, social responsibility and therefore performance, while at the same time it causes strikes, terrorism, torture, medical needs, etc., which is costly.
But first, one must be able to identify and measure WBE and requisite personal holism; this cannot be accomplished by usung the available literature.
A country may accelerate the use of the model as a large buyer, which represents the entire public sector i.e. over 40% GDP. In terms of supply they have to prescribe that the contract can be granted only to those that are first in innovation, social responsibilityand business excellence and require the same from their partners, and their suppliers. All who influence public opinion must try to attain public support for this model.
