Significance for science
The underlying project is strongly applied as the preparation of the experimental infrastructure took significant resources and effort. Among notable research achievements one should point the concept of model-based control of KPI's with stress on product quality. The approach is hoped to allow for easier control of multivariate production processes. The experiences gained in the project lead to a concept of holistic production control and a modular tool for its realisation. This might help facilitate the design of decision support in production processes.
Significance for the country
The project results are believed to have notable practicle potential in raising the quality od manufacturing processes in the company Kolektor. The application done in the project is taken as a reference application which is planned to be repeated in a suit of manufacturing units across the entire concern. This clearly shows the immediate impact of the research on the co-financer. There are many similar manufacturing processes in Slovenia. The achieved results are believed to be portable to other manufacturers as well. The likely impacts are expected to be as follows: - Reduced costs and time needed to tune the technologycal parameters of the machies after switching to the manufacturing of a new product. Hence one can avoid bad products. - by identifying the influential inputs one can reduce the overall set of implemented sensors by sticking only to the former; hence investment costs for instrumentation can be reduced. - good process model allows for reliable detection of incipient deterioration processes from changes in the residual distribution. Hence, possible causes for reduced quality can be timely revealed and accommodated. - more uniform quality and less freight rejected from custommers
