Significance for science
The project yield answers to important questions related to the initial stages of growth of organic semiconductors on graphene. Graphene is one of the most important contemporary materials, and has been selected by the European commission as one of the two Flagship projects. Successful integration of organic semiconductors with graphene will enable fabrication of fast organic transistors. The results of the project are the explanation of the mechanisms, which govern ordered growth of organic semiconductors on graphene. The analysis of electronic properties of graphene/organic semiconductor blends resulted in the explanation of the mechanisms, which are responsible for transport of the electric charge in these materials, which is extremely important for successful fabrication of organic transistors.
Significance for the country
The project N1-0009 is the only project in Slovenia focusing on the properties of graphene. Through this project Slovenia has obtained knowledge from the following fields of science: - fabrication of graphene from graphite - transfer of graphene onto different substrates - integration of graphene with organic semiconductors - synchrotron characterization of graphene-based materials
