Significance for science
Development of resistance to clindamycin oral bacteria and the importance of actinomycetes as low pathogenic bacteria in the development of chronic infections are two important conclusions for the development of science in the field of clinical medicine. Another such contribution to science are the results of the systemic impact of surgery and radiation therapy intraoral carcinoma by observing the changes of immune indicators. These data, together with clinical indicators such as survival and the incidence of new primary cancers, provide important prognostic prediction. In terms of basic science it is important to develop methods of identifying systemic disease through frequently used standard method, such as orthopanthomograms. This could present a simple and inexpensive method of screening for osteoporosis in relation to the significant changes that have been established by the original method. Computer methodology is an important model for simulation of various loads on bones, Innovative model of bone was developed on the model of the lower jaw with the finite element method.
Significance for the country
In our presented research very common pathology was researched and so represent also economically important influence. So in that wide aspect can be important for the development of society in Slovenia. Inflammatory processes affect the loss of teeth and jaw bone directly, and indirectly -through the impairment of oral mucosa that contributes to the formation of oral cancer. That is why inflammation in the mouth presents an important clinical problem. Identifying the causes of inflammation and the influences on inflammatory processes enable the impact on the conservation of teeth, dental implants and bone, and in the long term also the impact on the emergence of inferior oral mucosa which is prone to cancerous changes. Assessment of individual therapies of inflamed oral mucosa is important as well as relation of observed paramethers with survival rate and occurence of new primar carcinomas in these patients. Advanced researches are the promotion of the scientific fields only with publishing in the known word publications and publications in Slovenia. In the medicine this is the way for promotion and the way to introduce to patients from abroad. Presented researches are necessary also for quality levels of our institution, they provide to the younger researchers on that research project to realize their PhD research works. All of them are students of postgraduate studies Biomedicine and it is also very important for the education of new trained specialists. With the respect of the fact that the members of our research group are clinicians of unique institution in Slovenia in the field of maxillofacial surgery, with whole spectrum of pathology of head and neck, on secondary and tertiary level, these researches are mandatorialy necessary for contemporary development of this medical field in Slovenia.
