Abstract
A coordinated and well defined effort of experimental, applied and theoretical research groups will be organized to obtain a better understanding and efficient control of self-organization and surface properties of novel liquid crystalline nanoscale systems, such as 3D periodic anisotropic nematic colloids , micro- and nanoemulsions , holographic gratings and liposomes. The study of nanoscale and surface properties will be performed with novel surface sensitive techniques, such as AFM, STM, DLS, NMR, EPR, completed with modeling and simulations. The project involves a coordinated collaboration of 37 partners in EU and NAS .
