Abstract
The present proposal is aimed at the creation of a Thematic Network linking a significant number of industrial and R&D groups involved or seriously interested in amorphous-silicon (a-Si) technology for a wide range of applications. The market for new-generation displays, large-area sensors, thin-film photovoltaic and other product families is of high strategic importance. According to present trends, all these business fields will be completely dominated by the USA and Japan in the next few years if the EU does not react in time. ASlNET has been conceived to get the best of the European industrial capability and RTD in 'a-Si' in order to face this challenge under optimum conditions. The project is based on establishing efficient interaction channels aimed at generating new ideas and RTD projects, suitably disseminating essential information, enhancing European competitiveness and supporting new industrial initiatives.
