Abstract
The properties of ceramic materials are to a great extend determined by the nature of their microstructural features, such as grains of matrix phase, grains of secondary phases which could be intergranular or intragranular, grain boundaries, pores and defects in the crystal lattice of phases. Understanding the relations between the microstructure and properties is essential for the preparation of ceramic components for electronic with required characteristics. The project includes studies of phase equilibria, chemical processes and formation of intergranular phases, structural and chemical analysis of grain boundaries and structural defects in semi-conductive ceramics based on ZnO (varistor ceramics), superconducting ceramics and dielectric ceramic, and also microstructural characterization of ferroelectric coatings. The research requires the application of various methods of electron microscopy and microanalysis.
