Abstract
Characterization of TiN, CrN and ZrN protective coatings was completed. One part of the results we published as standard XPS spectra in the ''''Surface Science Spectra'''' bank, edited in New York. RBS and weight gain techniques have been used to detect nitrogen content in CrN coatings at elevated temperatures. Among ternary coatings TiZrN, and especially TiAlN show determined high temperature resistance in the temperature range from 750 to 900°C.
Special attention has been given to TiAlN coatings, to be efficiently used with technological processes of aluminium die casting, DUPLEX processes and also at hot forging of steel components.
Using plasma diagnostics in our BAI 730 M ion plating apparatus and in BAK 640 K in Belgium, we determined optimum conditions to produce TiN and CrN coatings. Both equipment offer high ionization degree of Cr and N2 in reactive plasma and with this also the production of high quality hard coatings with in advance known properties.
Results of our research and development work are the basis to continous transfer of our knowledge into the industrial plants of electro and machine industry. Education of technologists and permanent performance testing in industry are part of this activity.
