Abstract
The subject of the investigation will be some of the most interesting unsolved problems of modern dimension theory and geometric topology. We shall study the theory of general position for continuous maps of compact metric spaces into Euclidean spaces and related to this, the classical conjecture of Chogoshvili from the 1930''s. In addition, we shall consider compacta of cohomological dimension one over nonabelian groups and related to this, the celebrated unsolved problem on raising dimension for cell-like maps on 4-dimensional topological manifolds.
