Abstract
a. In filamentous fungi steroids induce various enzymes and enzyme systems. The mechanisms of gene expression regulation was studies on three different levels: on receptor level, on cAMP level and on gene level. Steroid inducible enzymes of hydroxylase systems were also studied. b. There are two important aspects of P450 enzymes in human metabolism: one is metabolism of endogenous substances like steroids and the other is metabolism of xenobiotics such as drugs and carcinogens. Mutations in CYP21 gene (steroid 21-hydroxylase) were studied in slovenian patients with polycystic ovary syndrom. Genetic polymorphism of CYP1A1 (aryl-hydrocarbon hydroxylase) was studied in order to evaluate susceptibility to lung cancer.
