Within the research work we have discovered that the current FMS analysis can be modified to enable mapping of absorber molecules, which is useful in identification of vessel leakage and which is the content of the recently filled PCT patent application and test. Later on we have confirmed that the application covers also additional modality/application - detection of patological conditions in macula. The application resulted from established permanent cooperation with Optotek medical company in the field of development of diagnostic and theranostic technologies. In the field of medical laser devices we collaborated also with Fotona as well as with group of R.Petkovšek on Faculty of mechanical engineering of University of Ljubljana.
F.21 Development of new health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 31223079A PhD thesis entitled »Development and evaluation of a laser for posterior capsulotomy« was successfully defended by Optotek research fellow Uroš Orthaber in November 2016. A novel patent-pending solution for treatment of conditions of the anterior eye segment, which is based on an innovative diode-pumped solid state laser enabled Optotek to define new therapeutic strategies in ophthalmology. Knowledge and know-how related to ophthalmic laser sources and interactions between laser light and ocular tissues, acquired in the scope of the mentioned PhD thesis, is applied to treatment of retinal conditions as part of the ARRS project.
D.09 Tutoring for postgraduate students
COBISS.SI-ID: 3040868Gaining new basic knowledge in the field of light-tissue interaction is of key importance in development of next generation of smart devices. By the interdisciplinary activities, financed within this project, Optotek company can gain valuable starting ideas originating in understanding the basic mechanisms of the interactions and leading to development of further key enabling technologies such as new laser sources and complete diagnostics-therapeutics (theranostics) solutions. Within this project, the joined platform has been established, further strengthen in November 2016 by R&D project GOSTOP financed within Slovenian Smart Specialization Strategy as finally supported by the recently started ARRS project L2-9254. This platform now provide fast expertise exchange and two demonstration sites for concept validation in lab environment (for diagnostics at IJS and for laser sources at Fac. of engineering of Univ.of Ljubljana).
D.01 Chairing over/coordinating (international and national) projects
The members of the project team have been heavily involved in organisation of one large international conference (RBC - Regional Biophysics Meeting 2018) with almost 200 participants and one smaller international conference within the frame of H2020 project (SmartNanoTox annual meeting) with around 50 participants. J.Štrancar (head of this project) was also the head of organizing committees of both afore-mentioned meetings.
