The purpose of the regional meeting was to take stock of the level of implementation of integrated weed management (IWM), to discuss ongoing IWM related research and future IWM research needs and possibly to establish networks that could be beneficial considering future EU research and network applications. Participants addressed the state of the art of the abovementioned topics and toke actively part in the discussions. Prior to the meeting participants also filled in a questionnaire on IWM adoption and research and the outcome of the discussions could form the basis for a scientific publication.

COBISS.SI-ID: 5313384Researchers from the Department of Plant Protection of the Agricultural Institute of Slovenia successfully tested several preparations for the biotic control of salad white rot. The results show that a biotic product based on Coniothyrium minitans can achieve statistically the same efficiency as with the established method of chemical protection. At the same time, this method also reduces the stock of dormant sclerotia in the soil, which is not achieved with chemical fungicides, and the effect of use can be noticeable in the following cultures on the treated plot. With repeated soil treatments, we can also return the soil heavily loaded with sclerotia of white rot to the state when the production of vegetables will not be compromised.
F.10 Improvements to an existing technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 5707112Slugs can cause extensive damage in agricultural plant production. Due to the restriction of the use of pesticides such as metaldehyde (limacid), it became necessary to search for new, environmentally safe methods for the control of slugs. In our experiment, the use of parasitic nematodes Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita on which the commercial preparation Phasmarhabditis-System (Biobest, Belgium) is based, has proved to be a successful method of biotic control of slugs.
F.01 Acquisition of new practical knowledge, information and skills
COBISS.SI-ID: 5573224In 2009, Member States of the European Union adopted Directive 2009/128 / EC establishing a framework for measures to achieve sustainable use of pesticides. It obliges the Member States to reduce the risk to health and the environment caused by the use of pesticides. Measures are based on 8 principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), where one of the basic element is also preparation of guidelines for Integrated Pest Management in arable, vegetable and permanent crops. The guidelines for the Integrated Pest Management of Brassica crops describe the technology for the production of some of the more important types of brassica crops and economically important diseases, pests and weeds in Slovenia.
F.14 Improvements to existing production methods and tools or processes
In an extensive work, dr. Razinger and co-authors described in detail various areas of biological plant protection and other low-risk plant protection methods. The work comprises more than two hundred and thirty pages and deals with a wide range of different topics of 'non-chemical' plant protection and as such presents a good overview of the topic for a wide readership.
