Clean water (i.e., water that is free of toxic chemicals and pathogens) is essential to human health. Due to competing demands because of population growth, more stringent health-based regulations and extended droughts, we are facing a formidable challenge of meeting rising demands for clean water. In recent years, semiconductor photocatalysis has emerged as a potential alternative for purification of waste waters because it is able to disinfect water and completely mineralize organic pollutants to CO2 and H2O.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1538069699The International Conference on Fluorine Chemistry is a regular five-year conference, which brings together the world's leading experts in the field of fluorine chemistry and was held this year in Himeji, Japan. The invited lecture was intended to present research results on the development of a new reagent for the selective introduction of a fluorine atom into an organic molecule via a nucleophilic pathway, which we are developing together with the Department of Inorganic Chemistry and Technology at Jožef Stefan Institute (head: Dr. G. Tavčar).

COBISS.SI-ID: 32387879With the help of European Regional Development Fund and Municipality of Trebnje, as project applicant, we have written a comprehensive book on šmarnica - direct producer wine variety, in which we have participated in a study on the methanol content in fermented drinks made from local vines. Šmarnica has a negative reputation because of its higher methanol content, though there are no sound scientific prove of that. At the same time, it is also interesting in connexion with ecological wine production and represents a unique potential for the Dolenjska region. As part of the project, we evaluated the methanol content of šmarnica and its effects on health, and thus obtained the first comprehensive study on the methanol content and effects of šmarnica on human health.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1538460099On November 21, 2019, the conference Road to Market Innovation within the Innovation Day was held at the Development department of JUB in Dol, Ljubljana. The company's strategic policy also includes in-depth collaboration with researchers from public research organizations. Dr. Peter Rodič of the Jožef Stefan Institute presented the idea: Smart coatings - from the laboratory to commercial use, developed by researchers from the Department of Physical and Organic Chemistry: dr. Peter Rodič, dr. Ingrid Milošev, Damir Hamulić and Barbara Kapun. The coatings presented demonstrate the potential for self-healing and self-cleaning of the surface and are therefore extremely interesting for various applications. The presentation is the recipient of the Best Idea Award as part of a development challenge.

COBISS.SI-ID: 33084711The invited lecture (45 min) was given to a conference specialized in meso- and nanoporous materials for various applications. 67 delegates from 10 countries participated in the symposium. The invited lecture consisted of an overview of this interesting field with detailed description of the parameters that were studied across many years and with several papers published in order to arrive to better understanding of this binary oxide system with emphasis on photocatalytic applications.
