This paper examines what determines household energy-efficient retrofit decisions in Slovenia based on analysis of more than 1,000 single family-house owners, survey respondents. While previous studies typically stress the importance of professional energy consultation and audits, we show that other formal and informal sources of information and advice also play a significant role in fostering energy-efficient retrofit decisions. Compared to partial retrofit measures, an integral approach to retrofits is more strongly associated with energy saving potential, household income and professional advice-seeking. On the other hand, free public energy consultation appears to have failed to deliver the expected outcome. Results of econometric analysis and respondents' answers about barriers and drivers for building energy retrofits call for strengthening the financial incentives, informing and educating the public through various information sources, combined with the redesign of public energy advisory network to increase the reach of building energy efficiency policies. The paper received The Best Scientific Paper Award in 2018 by University of Ljubljana, School of Economics and Business.

The paper proposes a new multidimensional instrument for measuring a firm’s latent financial constraints and tests it in explaining their heterogeneous impact on different firm exit routes. Applying the proposed measure to Slovenian manufacturing and service firms it suggests three dimensions of firms’ financial constraints, i.e. liquidity, operational efficiency and profitability. Whereas the liquidity dimension is important for court-driven and law-based exits, the efficiency dimension is critical for firms’ voluntary liquidation, while profitability is for the relative likelihood of being merged or acquired. These effects of financial constraints on firm exit processes tend to be intensified during the crisis period. The results also confirm that SMEs differ systematically from larger firms in terms of the sensitivity of the exit decision to financial constraints for all but merger and acquisition (M&A) exit routes. In 2018 the paper was awarded »Odlični v znanosti«.

In this study, we use the open innovation paradigm to analyze the development of an entrepreneurial support ecosystem. We argue that a business accelerator plays a critical role within an emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem. Our analysis draws on qualitative data from a business accelerator in an emerging entrepreneurial ecosystem. We suggest that, in environments that have underdeveloped entrepreneurial support ecosystems, public policy should endorse the open innovation activities of key actors in entrepreneurial ecosystems. By harnessing open innovation, an accelerator will forge a broader network of relationships with actors outside of the system, which in turn will increase the capacity within the system and embed it within a global innovation system.

This paper combines the existing sustainability–responsibility tourism framework from academic research with current industry research on overtourism in order to propose a sustainable tourism impact and stakeholder cooperation based on the overtourism risk monitoring model. Research has confirmed some impact factors that negatively influence the satisfaction of local residents with tourism presence. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that increased cooperation mitigates the negative perceptions of residents on tourism presence. In its present form, the proposed monitoring model can be used to examine the overtourism situation and to inform sustainable tourism policy and management for every destination.

This paper empirically examines the factors broadband users take into account when choosing their fixed broadband access mode in Slovenia. The conditional logit model was employed incorporating the survey data. The results reveal that the socioeconomic characteristics of users (age, education, gender, presence of student/pupil in the household, living in the city, subscription to TV services, and preferences for speed) influence the choice between different broadband access modes. Contrary to our expectations, access mode characteristics (the price, the download speed) have no statistically significant impact on the choice of the broadband access mode. This may be attributed to the intense price competition among different broadband technologies resulting in the price convergence and behavior of users, which tend to use the internet mainly for basic services. The results of the analysis may hold important implications for internet service providers when identifying appropriate strategies to attract customers to subscribe to their broadband technologies.
