The purpose of the targeted research project (CRP) entitled Safety of healthcare professionals in treatment of patients is to determine the type and prevalence of violence in health care facilities, to which workers are exposed, the attitudes of employees towards violence in their workplace and on the basis of these results to design a preventive educational model that would help to reducing violence. In addition, the goal of the CRP is to contribute expertise that will help decision-makers to implement the necessary measures at the state level and thus ensure security in the workplace. As part of the CRP, six surveys were conducted: - Analysis of conducted research and literature in the field of the occurrence of violence against healthcare employees and comparison with abroad; - An overview of ways to measure the incidence of violence and aggressive behavior within health systems and the development of a single and comprehensive detection instrument; and measuring the incidence of violence and aggressive behavior; - Prevalence of violence against health care employees and analysis of their views; - Prevalence of violence against health care employees - focus groups; - Model of functional education of healthcare employees for violence management; - Model of functional education - analysis of the preliminary performance of the proposed model. Research has shown that the prevalence of violence in Slovenia is similar to that abroad, with the main one deviation in the prevalence of physical violence, which is lower in Slovenia. It predominates verbally and mentally violence perpetrated primarily by patients or their loved ones against employees. Most employees point out that, despite being trained in violence management, it has been trained to deal with violence they do not know how to successfully transfer knowledge into practice. This leads to a feeling of fear and threat at workplace.
