An illumination system was developed to visualize the dynamics laser-generated phenomena in optically transparent media. The system can be coupled with high-speed cameras and makes it possible to generate an arbitrary train of illumination pulses with a variable pulse duration, pulse energy, and an intrapulse delay. Shock waves and the cavitation entities generated after the laser-induced breakdown in water are visualized and presented.

COBISS.SI-ID: 16721435Comparative analysis of pressure wave propagation, following laser-induced ablation of the human cornea, was performed. Evolution of the pressure field as well as temporal and spatial dependencies of the transient pressure amplitudes created at various input laser parameters, corresponding to different typical procedures of laser eye surgery, is presented comprehensively. The computations were performed with the next generation of the acoustic eye model, previously validated against existing measurements. The analysis allows the assessment of potentially problematic regions within the eye where the resultant positive and/or negative pressure may exceed values which are considered safe for the patient.
F.02 Acquisition of new scientific knowledge
COBISS.SI-ID: 16795163The first Slovenian convention on the use of physics was organized in 1975 in Škofja Loka. Now, almost 40 years after the first, the 16th Slovenian convention on the use of physics is on the line. As the title of the convention itself suggests, such events in Slovenia have quite a nice tradition. Such meetings are very important for Slovenian physics, as they offer a unique opportunity to view some of the many achievements in the use of physical knowledge. We expected contributions on the use of physics in industry, in the development of new methods, devices or materials, in the determination of technological processes, in metrology and quality assurance, and decided primarily to emphasize medical physics and biophysics, the properties of new materials, the development and use of control and sensing systems, nuclear and reactor physics, environmental physics, optics, acoustics and photonics. The contributions collected in the Proceedings only prove that we have proposed the topics well and that the desire and need to meet regularly is very present. We are convinced that the lectures presented will be an excellent starting point for creating new connections and deepening the existing ones, and that they will also attract interest from students of physics.
