The study was limited to the system analysis of the current forest management planning system, showing the methodological imperfections like the unsuitability of the plan types' contents, the incoherency of forest management (FM) regions' and units' plans, and contrasting information and communication flows. The link between the FM plan of a FM unit and silvicultural plans is technically correct, but the coherency of the contents is weak. On the other hand, the quality analysis proved the contents of the plans not being optimal; weak fields are: sites, forest functions, sustainability analysis, goals, instructions, and actions. The discussion shows that the majority of the European countries have much simpler and less regulated forestry planning systems than Slovenia. At the same time, the study recommends where to look for simplifications of the planning system.
