The results of the project were tested in a simulation exercise, which was organized in several interactive workshops, and in addition the opinions of the professional public was gathered through surveys. During the project, guidelines and starting points were set for the effective implementation of measures in the event of the occurrence of alien forest pests and for addressing their outbreaks and for the preparation of communication strategies. The implementation of the project took place in close cooperation and coordination with the bodies of the ministries, the Slovenian Forest Service and other stakeholders. The project started a discussion of all involved institutions. Due to the epidemiological situation (COVID19), the key findings of the project were presented in the form of a reportage video, which is available both on the project website and on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzW6SryYDTk
F.26 Improvements to existing organisational structure and managerial solutions
COBISS.SI-ID: 33978627The project was presented to professional forestry public (ZGS, GIS, representatives of the Forestry Department of the Biotechnical Faculty, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food, the Inspectorate of the Republic of Slovenia for Agriculture, Forestry, Hunting and Fisheries and representatives of the Slovenian State Forests Company; 84 participants) at the 10th seminar and workshop of forest protection (Škofja Loka, 6 June 2019). The focus of the presentation was on presenting legislative changes in the field of plant health and what it means in practice.
F.34 Consultancy
COBISS.SI-ID: 5404070Communication strategies established during this CRP project were implemented in the Upper Soča Valley for the actions taken to mitigate the fungus Lecanosticta acicola (communication plan: informing owners & residents by media, raising awareness, workshops, leaflets, brochures; implementation and cooperation with stakeholders: owners, contractors, ZGS, inspection services, MKGP, UVHVVR, GIS). The approach in the Soča River Valley has been presented several times to both domestic and foreign experts (eg. in Opatija at a meeting of the Croatian Plant Protection Association, within the international project EUPHRESCO, ...). Foreign experts (eg. BFW, Dr. Thomas Cech) already expressed interest in the Soča Valley Strategy, with an emphasis on communication.
F.18 Transfer of new know-how to direct users (seminars, fora, conferences)
COBISS.SI-ID: 5627558An overview of the organizational structure and services in the field of forest protection has been prepared, and the inclusion of forest protection in the Slovenian plant health system, managed by the Administration for Food Safety, Veterinary Sector and Plant Protection, has been described. An overview of legislative requirements in the field, both national and EU, has been prepared. A chain of stakeholders involved in the field of plant health in forestry has been identified and an assessment of its operation has been given. Research and professional challenges have been identified that should be addressed in the future.
F.30 Professional assessment of the situation
COBISS.SI-ID: 36833539An overview of good practices in raising awareness of the importance of biosafety in forests and opportunities for use in Slovenia has been prepared. In Slovenia, the concept of biosecurity is established in agriculture (eg. in pig breeding and hop growing), but in forestry it is relatively unknown. With the legally permitted free access to the forest, the dense network of forest roads and the recently increased number of visits to forests, the potential for their rapid spread is extremely high in the event of the presence of harmful organisms. Opportunities include awareness-raising in the direction of hygiene and measures necessary to prevent the introduction and transmission of harmful organisms, modernization of existing legislation in the field of plant health and forestry, their harmonization with applicable European legislation and monitoring their implementation. By no means should we forget the greatest opportunity for each of us to behave responsibly towards the environment in which we live.
