Ultra high energy cosmic rays and the Pierre Auger Observatory

Open questions in astroparticle physics of ultra-high energy cosmic rays are presented. As a mean to resolve corresponding experimental mysteries, the Pierre Auger Observatory is under construction in Argentina. Observatory's status and future prospects are discussed.

International conference "Time and Matter 2007"

Organization of interdisciplinary international conference "Time and Matter 2007" held at Bled, from August 26th-31st, 2007. The scope of the conference included problems of time and space on various scales in nature, from elementary particle physics to cosmological proportions. It presented in detail the most precise measurements of time, problems of causality and signal propagation, of the entanglement of quantum-mechanical states, of violations of discrete symmetries in elementary particle physics, quantum gravity, arrow of time and Big Bang cosmology. ARRS contract no. 1000-07-453247.

Cosmic rays at extreme energies : status and recent results of the Pierre Auger Observatory

The Pierre Auger Observatory is designed to study the origin and the nature of the highest energy cosmic rays. The observatory is taking data in a hybrid mode, a ground array of 1600 Cherenkov tanks spread over 3000 km2, and 24 fluorescence telescopes placed at four sites on the boundary of the surface array. Despite the fact that the observatory is still under construction, data is routinely recorded since 2004. The current status of the observatory, its characteristics and recent results on primary cosmic ray spectrum, arrival directions and the photon fraction limit are presented.

Recent progress in the development of a monolithic active pixel detector for a B factory

New technologies which are used in Monolithic Active Pixel Sensor prototypes, being developed for the "International Linear Collider" in "SuperBelle" experiments., were presented at the international conference "Development and Application of Semiconductor Tracking Detectors", September 11th-15th, 2006 in Carmel, USA. These sensors are being designed to withstand moderate radiation damage, high track densities of charged particles close to the interaction point and fast data transfers whilst keeping their thickness as low as possible.
