New diagnostic methods, that we developed have potential to be used in clinics and therefore this work has a direct influence on the quality of diagnostic medical procedures as well as its indirect influence on the education of medical personal cannot be overlooked. Igor Serša was also a member of expert committee in selection of clinical MR tomograph for Clinical Center Ljubljana, Department of Radiology. Development of EPR oximetry enables oxygen level measurements in vivo during the therapy which may help in more efficient and better cancer treatment.
F.21 Development of new health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 21354279In collaboration with the group from EPR center of viable systems (Hanover, N.H,h, USA) new highly sensitive 1.2 GHz EPR spectrometer was developed. The method was used to measure oxygen concentration during therapy (radiotherapy, chemo and electro-chemo therapy) of tumors, which enables optimal time scheduling of therapy and for determination of optimal vehicle for drug transport thorugh the skin.
F.22 Improvement to existing health/diagnostic methods/procedures
COBISS.SI-ID: 2341489Using spin trap EPR we optimized photo excited titanate nanomaterials for antimicrobial surfaces in household appliance (Gorenje) and in heat exchangers to prevent biofilm growth (Vinprom). By MRI methods heat processing of grouts was investigated and spectroscopic criteria for instanting and ways of food processing for better quality established. New European standard to establish concrete quality was introduced on the basis of ultrasound measurements.
F.09 Development of a new technological process or technology
COBISS.SI-ID: 1828963Developed program support for spectrometers has been used as a control system in the investigation of living conditions in low-energy houses for Ekoprodukt for whom we also developed and patented the season heat storage and program support for standardization of passive houses (this was the basis for young scientist position from industry in our group). The program EPRSIM, authorized work of J. Štrancar, is first automatic package for characterization of heterogeneous biological samples with EPR in the world. In the improvements the visiting scientist from Turkey participated.
F.23 Development of new system-wide, normative and programme solutions, and methods
COBISS.SI-ID: 20780071The group members were initiators and participated in organization of Regional biophys. Meetings, International conference of research and education in physics and Spectroscopy in theory and practice. They visited with cycles of lectures (Štrancar at University of Wageningen (NL) and University Aix-Marseille (F), Planinšič at University of Oregon (USA). Members participated in the education process at IPS, Universitys of Ljubljana and Maribor and are mentors of many graduate, master and PhD students in different fields of Life sciences
