Codes D.1, D.2, D.3, D.4, F.4, F.9, F.11, F.15 in F.31; G.3.3 and G.7.1: Processing of LHC data requires a breakthrough in computing with GRID technologies. CERN plays a pioneering role in GRID development, which promises a similar quantum leap in computing as WWW. We joined the effort by adhering to Infrastructure Projects of the 6 and 7th FP EU programme EGEE-I, II, III, which are establishing a global production GRID. We GRID-enabled our SiGNET computer cluster (500 processors, 170 TBy RAID mass storage) on two platforms: NorduGrid and LCG and established SiGNET as a WLCG Tier-2 centre.

Its implementation consisted in the supply of low-mass power tapes for the ATLAS SCT detector at CERN. Over 7000 flexible circuits with lengths up to 3.5 m were delivered. For excellence in manufacturing organization, delivery on a very tight schedule and product quality Elgoline was honoured with the ATLAS Supplier Award.

COBISS.SI-ID: 22251559Codes D.9, D.10 In the scope of the group, 20 university teachers execute their research work, among them 3 full (ordinary) professors, 3 associate (extraordinary) professors, 6 assistant (docent) professors and 8 assistants. They teach at graduate and postgraduate level at Universities of Ljubljana, Maribor and Nova Gorica. In this way achievements in particle physics get promptly included in the formation process in an adequate way.
