Austrian-German-Hungarian-Italian-Polish-Slovenian Joint Meting on Medicinal Chemistry which attracted 350 scientists from 30 countries took place from 17-21 June 2007 in Portorož. It was organized by the Section of Medicinal Chemistry of the Slovenian Pharm.l Society under the auspices of EFMC. D. Kikelj was president of the Scientific ommittee and L. Peterlin Mašič acted as president of the Organizing Committee of JMMC 2007. Proceedings from JMMC 2007 were published by Medimond and selected contributions from the conference were published in April 2008 issue of ChemMedChem.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2284913The INTAFAR project (2005-2009) involves 16 partners from 6 EU countries. The funding for UL-FFA totals 645.000 € and allowed employment of 4 researchers. The aims of the project are understanding of biosynthesis of bacterial cell wall as well as design and synthesis of inhibitors of intracellular steps of peptidoglycan biosynthesis. The project is important for the entire European health system as the pharmaceutical industry has reduced the research efforts in the field of antibacterial drug discovery inspite of growing threat caused by emergence of resistant bacteria.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2165873The programme team is aware of the importance of protection of intelectual property. Consequently, we seek protection for all important groups of compounds by filing national and international patent application, either alone or in cooperation with the Slovenian pharmaceutical industry. The granted patents and patent applications in the period 2004 to 2008 related to novel antithrombotic compounds, novel antibacterial compounds and novel modulators of integrins.
