The research activities included basic and applied researches. The goal of this project was to develop a new, environmental friendly, water based, hybrid coating for metal surfaces, which would show the advantages of the AC and PU components. On the basis of this research a AC-PU hybrid emulsion composition, which gives required coating properties, was established. Results of research work are of major importance for Slovenian coating industry. The importance of the work from the scientific point of view is confirmed by several citations.

Dechlorination of p-chlorophenol was investigated in a single-pass, continuous-flow microreactor system made of parallel palladized iron plates. The bimetallic catalyst was prepared by electroless deposition of Pd on the reactor plate surfaces. Experiments were performed under steady-state conditions at different temperatures and at a variety of flow conditions. A two-dimensional mathematical model was developed to analyze the experimental data and to forecast reactor performance.

Kinetic parameters for the case of vulcanization of NR and BR compound were obtained using regression analysis of the model and based on experimental data. Upon considering the variation of heat transfer during the scorch period and temperature dependence of the rate constants of the cross-linking reactions, the complex kinetic model was developed. The model along with its determined parameters may be readily applied for a wide range of elastomers and processing operating conditions or even combined with other aspects of a certain operation, such as kinetics or mechanics.

The continuous ethyl acetate extraction of progesterone and 11 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone was studied in a microchannel at different flow velocities. In addition, non-steady state batch extraction without mixing was performed and modeled in order to verify the theoretically predicted parameters. In order to analyze experimental data and to forecast microreactor performance, 3D mathematical model was developed considering the velocity profile for laminar flow of two parallel phases in a microchannel at steady-state conditions.

The influence of polymer molecular weight and crosslinking reactions on the adhesion properties of microsphere pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA) was investigated. Molecular weight of the adhesive was modified with employment of chain transfer agent and the crosslinking reactions were induced by addition of either di or triacrylate acrylic monomers. Adhesion properties of PSA's were also modified by synthesis of polymer nanocomposite materials with different amounts of various montmorillonite (MMT) clays.
