To assess the long-term safety of a radioactive waste disposal system, mathematical models are used to describe groundwater flow, chemistry, and potential radionuclide migration through geological formations. Kansa introduced the concept of solving partial differential equations using radial basis functions (RBF) forPDEs. The aim of this study was to present athe modeling of radionuclide migration through the geosphere using radial basis function.Wwe determine the radionuclide concentration with regard to variable hydraulic conductivity, which was modelled by a geostatistical approach.

Some modern instrumental methods enable to predict various influences on the flow properties of bulk solids. The use of the pattern recognition hardware and software give good estimate of the particle shape and size. The results can be applied to the study of precipitation in magnetic field.

The research activities were aimed to develop a 3D coal excavation model and to study the relevant geomechanical properties in the laboratory. The adsorption properties of lignite for CO2 were also studied in order to investigate its storage properties.

A laboratory test has been performed to evaluate the suitability of Slovenian waste paper sludge as landfill covering or sealing material. The sludges were examined for their geomechanical, chemical and sealing properties, as well as for their microbiological stability. The results of preliminary geotechnical studies of paper sludges indicate the expected relatively low strength properties, high compressibility and a low coefficient of permeability. This paper also aims to evaluate the suitability of paper mill sludges for use as hydraulic barrier in landfill covers.
