Publcation of university textbooks - Transmission of technological knowledge and methods in practice

Pedagogic staff in research group published four university textbooks, the fifth is in press: 1. BRUS, Robert. 2005. Dendrology for foresters; 2. JURC, Maja. 2005. Forest zoology; 3. DIACI, Jurij. 2006. Silviculture: virgin forests, stands, management and special chapters; 4. KOTAR, Marijan. 2005. Structure, growth and production of forests on ecological and physiological principal; 5. BONČINA, Andrej. 2008. Forest management. These textbooks are for students and forestry experts. Over 2500 copies were printed.

Organisation of scientific and professional meetings (B.01 in F.17,18)

Members of the research group organized six international conferences (1. FORMEC 2005, 2. Nature based forestry in Central Europe (2005); 3. KOI 2004:10th international conference on operational research; 4. SOR '05: 8th International Symposium on Operational Research; 5. KOI 2006, and 6. SOR '07), ten local scientific meetings and five days of Slovenian informatics ( 2004; 2005; 2006; 2007; 2008) as well as two expert meetings.

Laboratory establishment and accreditation (D.02 in D.05)

The Forestry department established two new laboratories in the past four years (1 – for forest ecology and 2 – entomology), three were radically renewed (1 – for ergonomic research; 2 – growth, yield and dendrochronology and 3 – remote sensing). A laboratory for genetic research is in the phase of planning and building. The genetic laboratory will merge the area of plant and animal genetics. The new established laboratory for entomology was authorized for diagnostic official sample by Medical plant protection law, which is leading on MKGP, Phitosanitaric administration Republic of Slovenia.

Ivited lectures on conferences

Members of the research group cooperated in invited plenary lectures on six international scientific conferences and two meetings for the EU presidency in the last five years. Themes on international scientific conferences were closely linked to the program goals, for example: (1) Natural regeneration of beech forest in Europe, (2) Decision making in natural resources and the environment regarding the interactions between experts and society, (3) Adapting silvicultural strategies to natural disturbance regimes: lessons from Central Europe, (4) Simplex algorithm - how it happened 60 years ago;

Visiting professors on institute or university

Members of the programme group collaborated as guest professors on following Universities: University in Banja Luka, University in Trieste, University in Nova Gorica, University in Mariboru, University in Zagrebu, University in Turin, ETH Zuerich, Oregon State University, University in Zvolen, University in Solunu, University in Tokyo. Beside longer visits they accomplished nine shorter invited lectures.
