The aim and purpose of the study was to prepare the foundation for preparation of national strategy and optimal technologies of production for ensuring the coexsistence of genetically modified crops with conventional and organic production taking in the account specifics of Slovenian farming. Results will enable Slovenia to conform and adapt to the EU regulations concerning production and marketing of GMO's.

COBISS.SI-ID: 1962088Relative gene expression analysis using qPCR showed that the mode of the expression of these transcripts is consistent among the four studied Phaseolus species. The results indicate that these transcripts are involved in the general response to drought stress. Promising results were obtained in our preliminary study using microarray technology and soybean GeneChip Array (Affymetrix). Almost 15% of the 35000 probe sets were identified which consistently detected transcripts in control and water-stressed plants of bean genotype Tiber and many of them showed different mode of expression.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2845544NIR spectroskopy is one of the most promiosing methods for determining the quality of meat. It is non destructive and enables on line aplication. In Slovenia this is the first research of this kind. We have verified the technological meat quality prediction on the basis of meat spectrum and in conjunction with conventional methods of quality prediction as pH and colour components (L, a, and b). The predictability using NIR is nearly the same as the conventional methods.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2163560In 2006 a new potato cultivar with the name Sora was inscribed in the EU Common variety catalogue and in the variety list of the Republic of Slovenia. It is a late cultivar, with a white flesh and light skin. It is multi purpose for cooking and intended for cold storage. Tubers are numerous and mid sized, oval with shalow eyes. It is completely resistant to PVY, some rases of yellow and white nematodes and potato cancer.

COBISS.SI-ID: 2205032Sharka, caused by the Plum pox potyvirus (PPV), is the most devastating viral disease of stone fruits and has a quarantine status in European Union and in Slovenia. First symptoms of sharka were observed in Slovenia in 1987 in several Prunus orchards. The virus is irregularly distributed in the plant so successful detection depends on sampling, the organ sampled and time of the year. At high temperatures the virus concentration in plants decreases and detection is less reliable. The real-time assay using MGB probe was developed for the detection of PPV in Prunus hosts.
