In several complementary studies the critical points during DNA quantification were studied and the effects of DNA extraction methods as well as sample matrix on quantification of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and microorganisms were evaluated. For detection of GMOs in in food and feed we developed a novel multiplex quantitative DNA-based target amplification method suitable for sensitive, specific and quantitative detection on microarray - NAIMA. This method can be extended to all fields of biology requiring simultaneous detection of low copy number DNA targets.

The digestive cysteine proteinases –intestains contribute to the Colorado potato beetle adaptation to the potato defense mechanisms. The enzymes were characterized at the protein level and a profile of efficient proteinase inhibitors was determined for each enzyme group. Results comprise an international patent, which has been already successfully commercialized.

The genes, proteins and signal molecules with a key role in the mechanisms of resistance with an emphasis on the susceptible and resistant (including the genetically modified) varieties of agronomical important crops (i. e. potato, grapevine) infected by viruses and phytoplasmas were studied by systems biology approaches. Our approaches has been demonstrated in chapter of the scientific monograph, which is at Amazon.com a Number 6 best selling book among plant molecular biology books.
