A contribution to modern research in an interdisciplinary area of educational studies, in which the author applies the concepts of indexicality and background cultural representations to the text of textbooks. The author prepared a method for critical analysis of textbook texts and criteria for the assessment of the content of such texts. He presents a concrete analysis of European history textbooks and shows how didactic texts are linked to the social and cultural context in which they arose. He modelled the inferences students make to fill gaps in meaning-imperfect didactic texts.

The problem of justice in education appears on two mutually linked levels: the school system and instruction. On the instruction level for instance the problem of justice in assessment and differentiation of pupils by gender is analysed in the context of Aristotle's and Perelman's theories of justice; the justice of punishing pupils in school is discussed on the basis of the utilitarian and retributive theory of punishment; while differentiation of pupils by ability and teachers' pay are primarily considered in the context of Rawls and Nozick's theory of distributive justice.

The basic purpose of the research was linguistic and argumentative analysis of sessions of the National Assembly (DZ) in 1999, as well as analysis of reports and commentaries on these DZ sessions in selected media. Discourse (textual) analysis was performed in three basic steps.Using a program that enables textual analysis of large databases, we firsts analysed all DZ sessions as well as reports on them in selected media.

The Unesco World Congress on Disarmament Education in June 1980 actually placed disarmament at the centre of peace education. The author found evidence that disarmament education “could not succeed” in an “obscure” collection of papers edited by Magnus Haavelsrud and published in 1993. Education nevertheless remains a tool of hope, especially when on an international level we agree on what needs to be taught to the next generation.

Importance of the book lies in distinguishing key expressions often interchanged (command and control, globalisation and glocalisation, outer and inner peace, differentiation of types of communication, plural use of styles), the introduction of new professional terms (responsible interactive citizenship, integrated model of teacher education, transformative competitiveness, experiential reflexive transformative learning), interdisciplinary and comparative analysis of complex changes in education as well as in theoretical initiatives for educational practice.
