International comparisons between Estonia, Hungary and Slovenia show that the idiosyncrasies of new EU member states persist even in the circumstances of adaptation of the political system to Europeanisation pressures Further, some tendencies toward convergence can be noticed. Fink Hafner has revealed that, while national administrative traditions do filter EU impacts, the impact of party system patterns of competition on politico-administrative relations are filtered by the political prioritisation of candidate states' integration with the EU.

The pioneering research into the dichotomy between politics and administration in Slovenia has shown that Slovenian politicians prevail over public administration personnel in the process of policy-making. The research findings provide important contributions to the academic field, but also the knowledge base needed in the process of further public management reform in Slovenia as well as in building strategies for further adaptation of governmental and non-governmental actors to the multi-level governance context of the EU

The rich empirical data reveals that the National Assembly is a relatively powerful and accessible political institution. Parliamentary working bodies are perceived by MPs and interest groups as being the focal points of their contacts. While MPs find interest groups to be both very valuable sources of input into the legislative process and relatively influential policy actors, interest groups are relatively happy with accessibility of MPs but less with their own impact. Despite the direct exchange between MPs and interest groups, political parties still play an important gate-keeping role.

Krašovec and Lajh have found that the two key reasons for the high level of support at the EU accession referendum in Slovenia (almost 90%) can be traced to the broad consensus among the political and social elite and the re-orientation of the most exposed and well-known anti-EU actors to the NATO accession referendum. The official pro-EU campaign was well organised and co-ordinated – unlike the anti-EU accession campaign.

The paper’s purpose is to provide an indepth evaluation of the current state of the Roma’s participation at the local level in Europe, and specifically in Slovenia. The authors thereby seek to identify how the Roma question is being resolved based on an empirical analysis of opinions of decision-makers at the local level.
