EACS is the leading organization for Chinese Studies in Europe and important also worldwide. Mitja Saje and Jana Rošker, elected member of the board of EACS from 2004 to 2008 succeeded to bring the organization of the XVI biennial conference of EACS to Ljubljana. Conference was a success, both from the point of view of organization and the contents. Members of research team were also on the editorial board of the proceedings of the conference.

The Society for Japanese LinguisticsPlenary paper read at the 60th congress of Kokugogakkai (The Society for Japanese Linguistics), Tokyo, May 22-23, 2004, based on analysis of Japanese language research in Slovenia and on spoken corpus based study of of pragmatic phenomena in discourse calls for methodological shift towards organized buildup of corpora for systematic empirically based Japanese language research. It also stresses the importance of establishing worldwide network of researchers and research institutions working on Japanese language.

CiCe is one of the Socrates thematic networks, spreading over about 100 higher education institutions from 29 European countries. Participating institutions are interested in how the children and adolescents are learning about citizenship in the European context and how they build their identities. The HP http://cice.londonmet.ac.uk provides informations regarding work, actual activities and resources connected with CiCe. The VIIth conference in Ljubljana followed conferences in London (1999), Athens (2000), Bruges (2001), Budapest (2002), Prague (2003) and Cracow (2004).

Paper introduces the notion of pluralistic epistemology by Zhang Dongsun, one of the most important Chinese philosophers of the 20c., a dissident, who died I a labor camp in 1972, who at present is still almost unknown. The Paper contributes toward better understanding of the development of contemporary Chinese philosophy and epistemology. It underlines Zhang’s achievements In comparative study of Western and Chinese philosophy, stressing cultural base of thought patterns. Central piece of Zhang’s research though is his work on pluralistic epistemology.

Teaching the global citizens’ education is concerned with teaching about values such as tolerance, which we develop based on understanding differences. At the secondary and higher level education young people develop abstract and logical thinking and are capable to understand social, historical and cultural background of differences. Nonetheless, some stereotypes picked up from the social environment persist as a part of general beliefs, which influence expectations and judgements of people.
