The monograph is the first literary-historical study of the entire oeuvre of Ivan Cankar. The author employs an intertextual approach when finding out how the writer’s works of various genres are embedded into the social-cultural, linguistic and artistic context and/or into Slovenian and European literary development, tradition, the canon and dynamics of influence. An intertextual analysis uncovers Cankar's originality in adopting and rejecting various contemporary European stylistic and intellectual streams.

An especially resonant scientific achievement in 2006 are the facsimiles of the oldest Slovenian translations of the Bible from 1555 to 1582 and the scientific commentary in the international series Biblia Slavica (C.02). The second volume of this monumental work, the Kommentare, was prepared from a historical, philosophical, and literary level by Slovenian, Austrian and German academics. The organization of this work has been led since 2002 by Jože Krašovec. The importance of this work is tremendous because it means the recovery of the oldest Slovenian prints.

Biblical place and personal names are the most conspicuous linguistic and cultural testimony of the fact that the Bible soon became the primary source of European civilization and later of world cultures. The aim of this unique study is to disclose the ariety of ways in which biblical proper names have appeared in all major European translations of the Bible from ancient times to the present in order to make manifest both the degree of innovation and dependence of translations on earlier key translations. In this respect, the Greek Septuagint and the Latin Vulgate are of special importance.

The monograph deals with the works of Ivan Cankar focusing on his relation to existential, social, and moral reality as reflected in individuals and in society at large. The method of literary analysis shows a surprising harmony between personal confessions and a rich symbolism that reveals the writer's unconditional belief in the power of conscience, strong conviction of the sense of victims and the longing for the triumph of love and justice. His works clearly indicate that expressive langugage and a lyrical style are of vital importance to him.
