Methodological issues in analyzing social networks in online forums

The presentation discusses algorithm parameters based on spatial and time distance between messages of online forum users. In the contribution parameters important for searching the optimal solution are identified. According to that the most important parameter is the number of previous messages that are considered in the identification of the connection between two users.

Measuring ties between participants of the on-line forum

Presentation deals with the central issue of our research: How to measure the ties between participants of the on-line forum when we do not have any direct information (citation) who is communicating with whom. The metrics, which has been developed within the project to overcome this problem, is presented and empirically evaluated.

Using social network methods in analysis of other types of data organized as 2-mode network

The presentation analyses the connection between content network (messages in online forum) and persons network (users of online forum). It is demonstrated that this is a complex two-level structure that requires a special proceeding because the mentioned networks are very closely related.

On-line forums – the first cases of successful e-democracy in Slovenia?

Paper analyses the effects of e-democracy forum related to the future of including Slovenian citizens into decision making process of European parliament. Analysis confirms theoretical assumption, that web forums present useful option for deliberate discussion about public matters. The case of EU energy policy illustrates the political environment, technical assets and communication patterns that are need for successful web forum.

Young People and eParticipation in Slovenia

The article empirically evaluates eDemocracy impact of the Citizens' Forum web project and its e-consultation effectiveness in engaging young Slovenian people in public deliberation concerning policy issues set by European Parliament. The case study will derive from the e-consultation evaluation framework defined by Macintosh and Whyte (2006). Authors have used both qualitative and quantitative methods of analysis and have focused on terms of general situation concerning eParticipation of young people in Slovenia and current eDemocracy developments related to the European Union.
